PRIZE-winning bunnies are hopping to it in Harrogate this weekend, with the return of Rabbit Showjumping to the venue.

The Burgess Premier Small Animal Show is expecting around 3,000 animals at their show today and tomorrow, and organisers says its main attraction is not to be missed.

Richard Rockett, Marketing Manager at Burgess Pet Care, said the unique event's popularity has soared since the talented bunnies first arrived on British shores in 2011.

Top rabbit experts will be on hand for the competition, and their hopping rabbits will descend on the Great Yorkshire Showground to showcase the natural speed and agility, he added.

The contest will see the bunnies doing what they naturally jumping over hurdles and hopping round a course.

Prize winning rabbit owner Karin Molin said her pet Micro would be aiming to beat his 85cm world record for the highest bunny showjump when he takes to the arena in Harrogate.

Besides the jumping rabbits, there will be around 700 cavies, 20 chinchillas, 50 gerbils, 200 hamsters, 250 mice, 1,650 rabbits and 150 rats all on show for visitors, as well as a discovery area where children can learn how to properly handle their favourite small pets.

Other family entertainments at the show include willow ball making for children and demonstrations from Sam Safari animal handlers.

There will also be discounted pet treats available from the Burgess stand, and voucher give-aways for people signing up to Burgess's newsletter.

Tickets start from 35 and are available on the door.
