A FLOOD WARNING is in place for the River Ouse at Naburn Lock.
The Environment Agency says the river there is currently 3.74 metres higher than normal, and rising steadily.
There is also a lesser "flood alert" in York city-centre, where the Ouse is currently 2.95 metres (9ft 8ins) above normal levels. It is forecast to reach 3 metres, or 9ft 10ins, shortly.
The Agency said this afternoon: "It will then remain at around this level through the night. Further rainfall is forecast today, and this could cause levels in York to rise again tomorrow morning.
"However, it is too early to forecast a further peak level at this time but we will update this message as further information becomes available."
The Ouse's record high was 5.4 metres above normal levels, during the floods of 2000.
