THE A1079 east of York was blocked in both directions tonight after an accident near Wilberfoss.

Humberside Police said a car had struck a tree, with two other vehicles also involved in the accident, which happened at 6.42pm.

A spokesman said it was believed there was one casualty, whose condition was not known.

The road closure led to queueing traffic, with vehicles diverted onto the A166 through Stamford Bridge.

Humberside Fire & Rescue Service said there had been a two vehicle collision, and a woman had been trapped in one of the cars and released by firefighters using hydraulic rescue equipment.

A spokesman said she suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital by ambulance, while a man in the second car released himself uninjured, and the incident was left with police after debris had been cleared from the road.
