A CYCLIST was taken to hospital with a head injury after coming off his bike.

The man collided with a Citroen C1 at 11.45am on Saturday at the junction of Sherburn bypass and Sherburn Road. He suffered a head and a knee injury and the junction was closed for some time.

Elsewhere, drivers were lucky to avoid serious injuries in a spate of accidents on Saturday.

A blue VW Passat and a silver Vauxhall collided on the A59 in Kirk Hammerton at 2pm.

The Harrogate-bound lane was closed and heavy traffic built up as police removed the cars.

A motorcyclist suffered minor injuries when he fell on the A64 at 2.30pm, near Flaxton.

Later that day, a white Ford Fiesta flipped on to its roof on the B1248 near Wharram after avoiding a head-on collision.

At 12.30pm yesterday, a blue Vauxhall van ended up in a ditch off the A59 near Allerton Park. The driver suffered minor injuries.

Firefighters also cut a driver from his van when he was in collision with an estate car at the junction of the A168 and A59 at 12.20pm yesterday.

When crews arrived they found the driver of the car had freed himself, however, the male driver of the van had to be cut out using hydraulic cutting equipment and hand tools. He was taken to hospital with back injuries.
