FIREFIGHTERS have cut a driver from his van following a crash on the A59.

The fire service were called to the scene at the junction of the A168 and A59 at 12.20pm today after the van was in collision with an estate car.

When crews from Knaresborough and Harrogate Fire Station arrived at the scene they found the driver of the car had freed himself, however, the male driver of the van had to be cut out using hydraulic cutting equipment and hand tools.

He was taken to hospital suffering from injuries to his back.

This is the second incident on the same road today and the third this weekend.

A Vauxhall van had to be recovered from a ditch when the driver left the road near Allerton Park just after noon today.

And the road was blocked for two hours on Saturday when a blue VW Passat and a silver Vauxhall people carrier collided on the A59 near Kirk Hammerton, blocking the Harrogate-bound lane.
