OPENING the first window of an advent calendar signals the start of Christmas for every child.

And it was no different for pupils at Haxby Road Primary School as excitement levels went into over-drive when they received their calendar of chocolate treats from Father Christmas.

The sweet-filled windows were donated by staff at Gap, in York Designer Outlet, to every child aged under-five during a festive day which saw Santa surprise the children.

Zoe Lightfoot, headteacher, said: "It was really lovely when Father Christmas came to see us with his helpers.

"It was a great time and they were telling him everything they were going to do at Christmas.

"They were doing a piece of writing on what Father Christmas looks like so it was great he could come down and do this."
