A SPECIAL exhibition marking the First World War heroes of Cawood closes at the village church today.
The show has been open since Monday, and displays information about each of the 28 men from Cawood who died in the Great War, and the 200 who fought.
It has been arranged by village resident Margaret Brearley, who has spent more than a year researching the names on the Cawood war memorial, and has discovered that as well as the 18 men listed on the memorial, another 10 had lost their lives in the war.
The exhibition also features Cawood man Tom Simmons who won the Distinguished Service Order, the Distinguished Conduct Medal, and the Military Cross; and brothers John and Arnold Green who died just two days apart in August 1918.
The exhibition is open from 10am-4pm in All Saints Church, Cawood. Entry is free, and refreshments are available.
