A TEENAGE motorist was assaulted by another driver at traffic lights in York.

The 18-year-old man from Escrick was driving a black Vauxhall Corsa at about 4.40pm on Tuesday, November 4, when he pulled up to traffic lights at the junction of Elvington Lane and Hull Road. A man in a silver estate car pulled up behind the Corsa and got out of his car and had a verbal altercation with the driver, then allegedly punched him in the face.

North Yorkshire Police said the 18-year-old suffered a facial injury in the assault which requires ongoing medical treatment, and urged anyone with information which could help the investigation to contact them.

PC Graham Marshall, of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “If you witnessed this assault taking place, or can help to identify the man responsible, I urge you to come forward as you may have vital information which could help my inquiries.

“I am also keen to speak to the driver of the silver car, so that I can understand the circumstances surrounding the incident, and ask them to contact me as soon as possible.” The suspect is described as being a white man, aged in his mid-forties, around 5ft 7in tall He was of medium build and was bald with greying hair at the sides.
