A FUNDRAISING driving instructor is offering people the chance to write on her car for Children In Need.

Trudi Black, from Haxby, is taking part in The Big Learner Relay for the national charity on Tuesday, which will see thousands of driving instructors around the country take part.

The relay started on Thursday and sees learner drivers use their hour-long lesson to transport the Children In Need top-box on the route around England and Northern Ireland.

Trudi said: "I've had the car liveried up and will get people to write their names on the spots in return for a donation.

"I saw the relay on Facebook and messaged straight away saying I was up for it. The organiser Louise Walsh got in touch asking if I would like to be one of the lead cars with the top-box and I said definitely - it's snowballed from there really."

Louise is also taking part in the challenge, by sitting as a passenger in each vehicle on the 2,100 mile route.

Trudi, who has been an instructor with Yorkshire Drivers for six years, will take the top-box for the one hour lesson, before handing it over to Tang Hall's Ken Haigh, with every instructor also donating their fees for the lessons to Children In Need.

She said: "I haven't chosen the pupil yet but contacted a local radio station and they said they have a student with them who might get involved depending on what stage they are at.

"I have a couple of pupils in mind and might end up picking a name out of a hat. I think that's the fairest way of doing it. Louise was hoping to raise £5,000 but already smashed that so anything extra is a bonus, and if there are 2,000 driving instructors involved, I think everything helps."
