A MUSICAL society is preparing to celebrate its centenary next month.

New Earswick Musical Society will perform Mack and Mabel at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre in York between November 12 and 15, and have also planned a celebratory dinner.

The group was founded in 1914 with plays staged at the Folk Hall, and had more than 260 members by the time it moved to the Joseph Rowntree Theatre in 1968.

Jane Holiday, publicity coordinator for the group, said: "We are putting everything into this show to make this an extra special show for our members and York audiences to celebrate and share with us our amazing centenary milestone."

The public is welcome to the dinner, which will be held at the Marriott Hotel in Tadcaster Road on November 22, and will include a three course meal and entertainment.

Jane said: "We have sent out over 100 invitations already but wanted to share our night with everyone that wants to be with us."

Tickets for the dinner cost £26 and are available by phoning 07789 260852.

Tickets for Mack and Mabel cost between £10 and £15, and are available on the same number, or online at newearswickmusicalsociety.co.uk
