1) DINERS who arrive at a York restaurant wearing their dressing gowns on Monday can eat for free. 2) A PUMPKIN search will be held at Acomb Working Men’s Club on Thursday, October 30. The Halloween event includes a fancy-dress competition, games and food. The event runs from 5pm to 9pm on Thursday, October 30.

4) A NORTH Yorkshire village has received a royal award. Stamford Bridge in Bloom was this week named as one of 43 recipients of the Duke of York’s Community Initiative Award, which is presented annually to Yorkshire-based organisations deemed “of real value to the community, well run and an inspiration to others”.

The initiative was founded by Prince Andrew in 1998, and he presented representatives Bryan Lawson, Jayne Chomyn, Judith Arnott and Peter Arnott with the award at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham.

5) THE Police and Crime Commissioner for North Yorkshire, Julia Mulligan, will take part in surgeries next month when people can speak with her and voice their concerns or thoughts on policing in their communities. The surgeries will be at: Kirkbymoorside Library, 10am to noon on Thursday, November 6; Bedale Hall, North End, Bedale, 5pm to 6.30pm, on Wednesday, November 12; Hugh Ripley Hall, Caretakers House, Ripon, noon to 2pm, Friday, November 2.

6) CHRISTIAN leaders say they are facing a race against time to keep a 15th century church open. Unless £14,000 can be raised to replace the electrical system at St Peter’s Church, Helperby, near Thirsk, it will close on January 1. The Rev Chris Park told a public meeting at Helperby Village Hall that a recent inspection had exposed health and safety issues and its insurer had given the church four months to rewire the building.

He announced a £50,000 fundraising drive, revealing plans to install a disabled toilet in the spring, at a cost of £13,000, and to spend £22,000 redecorating the inside of the building next summer.

 

7) A WOMAN who was found with serious head injuries in a York street has been discharged from hospital. The 42-year-old woman was assaulted in the early hours of October 2, and found with head injuries in Lady Road, Clifton. A 36-year-old man was arrested and bailed in connection with the attack on October 6. A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the woman was discharged from hospital several days later.

 

8) A WHITE Ford Transit-style van, registration YF07 LVN, has been seen in suspicious circumstances at a farm in Balne. Any sightings should be reported to police on 101.

 

9) TWO teenage boys have been arrested and charged with an attempted robbery after a woman was attacked in the Northallerton area.

The 39-year-old woman was attacked while walking through Bullamoor Park at about 9.15pm on Sunday, October 19, when she was pulled to the ground by two youths.
