TROPHIES have been presented to fundraisers for the Lord Mayor of York's charities at the Mansion House.

Thousands of people turned out to watch this year's Dragon Boat Race in the River Ouse in July, where groups competed against each other and raised money for charity, for the 12th year running.

This year's event, organised by the Rotary Club of York, raised £58,000, taking the total raised for more than 100 local charities over the years to more than £800,000.

Lord Mayor of York Councillor Ian Gillies said: "Rotary do a splendid job in organising the Dragon Boat event, bringing so many different groups together for an exciting and entertaining day and producing so much money for deserving causes."

Of the funds raised, £12,000 will go to the Jack Raine Foundation for a healthy youth project, with the rest shared between other local charities.

Rotary Club president John Lacy said: "The wet start on the day didn’t damp the enthusiasm of the teams and it’s very gratifying to the Rotarians and our sponsors another fantastic financial outcome will benefit so many local charities."

Trophies were handed to teams run by 129 Battery 4th Regiment, St Leonard's Hospice, Copmanthorpe FC, Shepherd Group and Ged Bell Butchers.
