A BUS company says it has come to the aid of stranded extra care residents in Tadcaster, following a year-long campaign to get a service reinstated.

Bus operator Arriva said older residents in Popple Well Springs, Leeds Road, will once again have a bus stopping outside their extra care housing development.

A spokesman said the new route would take residents from Tadcaster to Sherburn after Arriva extended its existing route.

"From October 27, the 492/493 route will travel along Leeds Road, Garnet Lane, Woodlands Avenue and Stutton Road before picking up passengers from Popple Well Springs."

He said local resident Barbara Smith, 66, had organised a petition to get the service reinstated.
