A MOTHER has thanked 'truly generous' well-wishers who have raised £2,300 towards an appeal to help her quadriplegic son get upstairs at their York home.

The Press reported last week how the family of four-year-old Max Parker is trying to raise £10,000 towards the cost of installing a lift and making other changes at their house in Campleshon Road, South Bank, to make it wheelchair friendly.

Max suffers from cerebral palsy and dystonia, causing muscle contractions and abnormal posture, after being born 13 weeks' premature.

A fundraising event was held at St Chad's Church Hall at the weekend and raised £2,300, mainly through a charity auction, said Max's mother Lisa.

She said: "There are some truly generous, warm hearted people and each and every one of them has made it more achievable for Max to get his lift.

"We have been overwhelmed with the local support from the people in York, friends, family and anonymous people and we would like to take the opportunity to say a big thank you from the bottom of our hearts."

She also thanked businesses and individuals who donated auction prizes: York Racecourse, Marriott Hotel, Creepy Crawlies, Tesco at Tadcaster Road, Nestlé, Knavesmire Butchers, the Reverend Simon Stanley and the Royal York Hotel. "Our family feels truly blessed and we have been very emotional," she added.
