TWO men with a knife have been disturbed breaking into a house in York.

The men were disturbed when a man living in the shared house in Surtees Street in Clifton retuned home on Sunday night to find a ground floor bedroom door had been forced open.

As he went to investigate, two men - one carrying a knife - came down the stairs and headed for the back door.

One of the men was white around 5ft 5ins tall, with a stocky build. He was wearing black clothing, gloves, a hooded-top with the hood up and a black scarf covering the bottom half of his face.  He was carrying the knife but did not threaten the victim with it.

The other was 5ft 8in tall with a big build. He was wearing a grey or white top and tracksuit bottoms similar in colour to his top.

Detective Constable Kevin Goodman, of York CID, said: “Fortunately the victim was not hurt in this incident but he was left very scared by the experience.

“I am appealing to anyone who may have seen two men acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident to get in touch with the police or Crimestoppers.”

The men broke into two bedrooms at the house and stole a new iPhone 5 in the burglary at about 9.50pm.
