1) RADIOGRAPHERS at York Hospital went on strike yesterday in the latest action against the Government’s rejection of a recommended one per cent pay rise for all NHS staff.

Members of the Society of Radiographers walked out for four hours from 9am, although emergency cover was in place, and will work to rule for the rest of the week.

Katy Gibson, a radiography specialist, said: “We have not had a pay rise in a great number of years. Inflation is going up, the cost of living is going up. A one per cent pay rise would definitely help. That’s why we feel strongly about this.”

Last week other health workers picketed York Hospital. Staff across the NHS - including nurses, midwives, cleaners, porters, sterile service workers and ambulance crews - walked out on strike between 7am and 11am.

The CAB and Yorkshire Energy Partnership are going out into the community with energy road shows to help residents find out how they might be able to save money on their energy bills.

The roadshows are part of Big Energy Saving Week, a national campaign supported by Government and led by CAB in partnership with Energy Saving Trust, Age UK and Action with Communities in Rural England.
