AN event in memory of a much loved 33-year-old mum-to-be is due to be held in York.

A fundraising concert is to be held at the Post Office Club in memory of Janine Barker who was 18 weeks pregnant with her first child when she began suffering from pains in her hip and was found to be suffering from advanced cancer in her bone marrow, the secondary effects of breast cancer.

She passed away on September 3, but not before Janine, from Heworth, and her husband Simon were able to name their unborn son Bertie Murray Barker.

The event, which starts at 7pm on November 21, will feature The Legends, who perform a mixture of music including 60s and Motown, and all proceeds raised will go to York Breast Cancer Care.

It has been organised by a family friend Sue Wells.

She said: "It makes you so aware this can happen to you, whether you are young or old. We wanted to do this in memory of such a wonderful young woman who made everyone smile. It's for a really good cause."

Everyone is asked to wear red, Janine's favourite colour.

Tickets are £5 and can be bought at the Post Office Club or by calling Sue on 07583 479925.
