THE closure of the Castlegate centre will face fresh scrutiny. The cabinet voted on Tuesday to close 29 Castlegate, which houses a wide range of young people’s services, and to move them to West Offices.
The Conservatives have called-in the matter for examination by another committee. Conservative Cllr Paul Doughty said: “It is outrageous that the community is expected to sit by and watch this service being pulled apart under an expensive transformation programme when it is already effective and requires only a modest budget.”
He said the centre was a front-line service that needed protected. His Conservative colleague Cllr Helen Douglas said asking disenfranchised young people to come to the big, busy, bureaucratic West Offices would turn them off even more and further disenfranchise them.
