YORK Hospital has won praise for the way it has upped its performance in the way they support and care for cancer patients.
According to Macmillan Cancer Support, York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust was the most improved hospital in the north of England and second nationally only to The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust in the West Midlands.
Fay Scullion, general manager for Macmillan Cancer support in Northern England congratulated the York trust. "We know that the support and care people receive is as important as their actual treatment, and can make all the difference between coping with cancer and finding it a real struggle. For example, being told about financial help that is available, or being provided with high quality information about their cancer and its treatment.”
The league was based on research commissioned by NHS England when patients were asked about their hospital experience, such as how their diagnosis and treatment options were explained to them and whether they were treated with respect.
