FAMILIES in Dringhouses turned their windfall apples into homemade apple juice at the weekend, with the help of a traditional apple press.

The third ever community apple pressing day was held in Dringhouses on Saturday, and saw a steady stream of people arrive at St Edward's Community Hall, to help make 50 bottles of fresh apple juice.

Organiser Marion Burgess said: "It was an amazing day, really fun. A steady stream of people arrived to help chop and press the apples, and to enjoy the refreshments and entertainment."

The event included apple flavoured refreshments, and competitions like "guess the weight of the apple", and was organised to help raise money for the new Community Hall fund in Dringhouses.

Marion first organised an apple pressing day three years ago at Dringhouses Primary school, and it proved so popular that last year she launched the event as an annual day for the community.

"We'd really like to run the apple day again next year," she added.
