SWEET-toothed staff and schoolchildren from across the city will dust off their scales to serve up treats for a worthy cause this week.

Shops, schools, businesses and The Press are set to bake a selection of goods to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support during their day of fundraising on Friday.

The annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning saw 154,000 people sign up to take part in 2013, raising a record £20 million.

Events have already taken place, including a cake sale at Headlands Primary School, on Oak Tree Lane, or - ganised by Year 5 pupil Faith Varlow, aged nine.

Headteacher Sarah Wright said: “It was fantastic.

“Faith raised about £120 so she’s done really well after writing to me back in July to see if she could do it.

“It’s a massive effort from someone of her age.

“She practically spent the whole weekend baking after a week on a residen - ahead of time when staff in the Parliament Street branch took part in a Bake Off com - petition to make a selection of bread, buns and bagels.

Mark Banyard, Skipton’s York branch manager, said: “We are proud to be fundrais - ing for Macmillan Cancer Support by taking part in their World’s Biggest Coffee Morning event.

The city’s Skipton Build - ing Society held their sale “The work Macmillan does is fantastic and if we can help just one family affected by cancer through our fund - raising we will be delighted.”

Friday will see staff in Nessgate’s Marks and Spencer store offer cakes and treats to the customers as they join the effort to raise millions.
