STAFF from York College are urging people to contact its campus by telephone after a cable providing their internet was severed.

The Bishopthorpe building is without access to emails after the line was cut on a site close to the University of York, and it is not known when the connection will return to normal.

A spokeswoman for the college said: "The college has been informed this is a major internet link failure due to a cable being cut near the University of York, which has affected a number of companies, including the college’s internet service provider.

"This is an external problem with no specified fix time at this point.

"If you need to contact the college please telephone (01904) 770400 for general enquiries or (01904) 770397 for enrolment into adult learning courses.

"The HE/Adult open evening is still going ahead this evening from 6pm to 8pm.

"The public are unable to email the college or access the college website and we ask the public to be patient and contact the college by telephone."
