A COMMUNITY group in York wants your help to secure much-needed funding to improve a play area.
The Wigginton Playground Play For All project has been shortlisted for a Lloyds Bank Community Fund grant of up to £3,000, but they need votes to make it possible.
The Wigginton project, spearheaded by the Churchfields Open Space committee, say they would use the money to replace worn-out pieces of apparatus and make the playground better for youngsters, both able-bodied and disabled.
Committee member Richard Denton said: “Children will be more encouraged to be active through play, learn to socialise better and disabled children will have the opportunity to play alongside and with siblings and peers because of the equipment which is specially adapted. This will reduce their feelings of isolation and lack of inclusion.”
Jackie Snape, chief executive of Disability Action Yorkshire, is behind the bid. She said: “We are delighted, it is hugely important that disabled children are able to play alongside non-disabled children.”
Poppleton Ousebank School and Snappy (Special Needs Activity and Play Provision for York) have also been shortlisted for funding.
Members of the public can cast their vote by going to www.lloydsbank.com/communityfund, in any branch of Lloyds bank or on SMS or Twitter. Voting is open until October 10.
