FIREFIGHTERS have tackled a blaze in a flat in York city centre.
The fire started in a second floor flat of a four storey house in Bootham Terrace and was reported at 7.15pm.
The occupier of the flat alerted emergency services.
It was initially feared that a person or people remained inside, but residents were quickly accounted for, a North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said.
Fire crews, North Yorkshire Police and paramedics were all called to the scene.
The fire was extinguished by 8.20pm, when crews were said to be clearing up the scene.
There are no reports of serious injury.
The cause of the fire is not known.
