ONE of North Yorkshire's top brass bands has won top awards in an event in the Yorkshire Dales.

Shepherd Group Concert Band, which is based at Portakabin in Huntington, has brought home the trophies from the Hardraw Scar Brass Band Festival.

The annual contest takes place at the natural outdoor amphitheatre next to Hardraw Force waterfall and was attended by hundreds of brass band enthusiasts.

Thirteen bands travelled from all over the country to compete in the contest, with each band required to perform a 20 minute programme, comprising light and popular music of its own choice.

Shepherd Group Concert Band was up first and won third prize.

Meanwhile, Will McCartney took the Meg Butler Memorial Trophy for Best Solo, had left to start celebrating his 17th birthday, which no doubt became a double celebration once he heard the news.
