YORK'S CAB has won the award for Campaigning Bureau of the Year, in recognition of its social policy and campaigning work over the last year.

The Citizens Advice Bureau has campaigned on local and national issues affecting York residents, particularly on welfare benefit and debt issues, including benefit sanctions, Employment Support Allowance and the work capability assessment.

The award was presented to Rebecca Jeffrey, York CAB's social policy coordinator, at a dinner by Martin Lewis, the money saving expert, at an annual conference celebrating 75 years of the CAB.

York CAB chief executive George Vickers said: “We were very excited and honoured to receive this award, voted for by the network of CABx across the country.

"The social policy and campaigning work we do using the evidence and experiences of clients is a vital part of our work.

"Highlighting the impacts of policy and practice on local people helps us achieve positive change for us all.

"This is particularly important at the current time when so many are feeling the effects of welfare reforms and the increased cost of living. Our success shows this area of our work makes a huge difference.”
