AN annual charity bike ride celebrates its 15th anniversary this weekend with an £80,000 plus fundraising target.
Organisers of the Big Bad Bike Ride are hoping to welcome 400 riders on Saturday as they host the 15th event in aid of Ataxia UK.
The event was founded by York businessman Graham Kennedy after his children were diagnosed with Friedreich’s Ataxia, a neurological disorder that affects balance, coordination, and speech.
With this year's fundraising target set at £80,000, the total amount raised by Big Bad Bike Ride over the past 15 years is set to surpass the £900,000 mark.
In previous years the event has taken cyclists through Yorkshire, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Belgium.
This year's Big Bad Bike Ride is a circular 100k ride into the Yorkshire Wolds. The ride will start and finish at the New Sports Centre on the East Campus of York University.
Although pre-registration has closed riders can register on the day, but must be at the starting post in advance on the 9am start, with the £45 application fee.
