A TEENAGER is in hospital with serious injuries after he was thrown through the windscreen of a car in a crash in York.

The 16-year-old boy was a passenger in a green Citroen Saxo which crashed into a hedge in Towthorpe Road, between Haxby and Strensall, at about 8.50pm on Monday.

He suffered serious head injuries in the crash, and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary, where his condition is described as serious.

A second 16-year-old passenger, who was in the front passenger seat, suffered a serious hand injury and remains in York Hospital.

Three other teenage boys who were also in the car - including the 17-year-old driver, a 17-year-old passenger, and another 16-year-old - also suffered minor injuries in the crash and were treated at York Hospital.

The road was closed by the police to allow investigation of the scene and recovery of the car and debris, and reopened just after 3am yesterday.

Anyone who saw the car before the crash, or has any information that could help police should phone 101.
