DURING his year in the city’s most prestigious role, Cllr Ian Gillies will take part in many events he will revel in.

However, a cookery demonstration, by all accounts, is not going to be one of them.

But that is what awaits York’s Lord Mayor later this month as he attempts to raise money for his two chosen charities – York Against Cancer and York Teaching Hospitals.

The Can’t Cook Won’t Cook event, on September 24, will see Cllr Gillies team up with celebrity chef Stephanie Moon, to cook a two course meal at the Guildhall, in St Helen’s Square.

Guests can take watch the pair go through the challenge before sitting down to a two-course meal as part of York Food and Drink Festival.

Anne Platt, civic service co-ordinator, said: “He is a reluctant chef, but it’s an event that is in support of his two charities.

“They are going to be doing a demonstration together followed by a two course meal in the Guildhall.”

Tickets are £25 and are available by calling (01904) 635149 or at www.yorkfoodfestival.com
