CONGRATULATIONS to James Alexander for breaking a third housing record in three years (“Drop in the number of affordable homes built in York”, The Press, September 1).
In 2011/12, a record low of 321 net housing completions was achieved in York, under Labour.
In the same year a record low of 174 housing planning consents was achieved in York, under Labour.
Now we hear that a record low of 47 affordable homes was achieved in York in 2013/14, again under Labour.
What happened to Labour’s manifesto pledge to deliver more affordable housing in York?
It seems that the council’s Get York Building initiative has had the reverse effect on housebuilding.
Maybe those who have been telling the council they’ve got their housing policies wrong, were in fact right after all?
