Lendal Bridge fines

JUST a few thoughts on the Lendal Bridge fines saga.

If the restrictions the council put in place are illegal, then surely the fines deducted by the council should be repaid as a matter of course.

If the council’s action was not classed as illegal under traffic laws and they scrapped the restrictions themselves, then can it not be said that they thought the restrictions were wrong and thereby have a moral duty to return the fines imposed on a scheme they thought was flawed?

Angry motorist from Bolton says...

I was caught up in the Councils ridiculous closure of Lendal Bridge and when I challenged the poor signage and road lay out I told them that I for one will never return to York as I was there as a tourist with my family and spending money at the attractions and shops of York .
Even though the fines are to be refunded it will not change my mind mainly due to the fact that it has not been made public knowledge outside of the York area, I wonder how much the Council will still profit from their actions?
How many people like me would have heard anything about the refunds, I only found out purely by chance through a friend of my mother-in-law who lives just outside of the city centre.
The Council should be made to automatically refund everyone caught up in this scam after all they are quick enough to send out the fines!
