A CCTV image has been released of a man British Transport Police want to speak to in relation to an incident in North Yorkshire.

A BTP spokesman said two men had been ejected from a train from London at Northallerton station at about 9.45pm on Friday, August 15, as they were heavily intoxicated and abusive.

PC Tony McGhin said: “When they attempted to board another train, the 7.18pm service from Kings Cross to Sunderland, they were again refused travel by a member of station staff due to their behaviour. One of the men then spat in the face of the member of staff, a 44 –year-old man from Ashington in Northumberland, leaving him with spittle on his face and jacket.

“Offensive and unpleasant behaviour such as this towards a member of staff who was simply carrying out his job is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated by BTP. The men had boarded the train at Kings Cross and were intending to travel to Hartlepool or Sunderland.”

PC McGhin said he believed the man in the CCTV image may be able to help with the investigation and urged him, or anyone who recognises him, to phone BTP on Freefone 0800 405040, or text 6106.

Alternatively, phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
