FIREFIGHTERS were called to a car on fire after a crash on the A19 near Thirsk in the early hours.

Crews from both Thirsk and Northallerton stations went to the scene, on the Northbound carriageway of the road near Borrowby, at about 1am today.

They found one vehicle which had left the road set on fire, but all three people in the car had made it out and were cared for by paramedics.

The firefighters used a hose reel jet, thermal imaging camera and breathing apparatus to deal with the flames.
