A MAN accused of robbing a women in her seventies will have his case heard at York Crown Court.

Sean Wemyss, 42, of Backhouse Lane, York, was remanded in custody and will appear in court on September 12 following the alleged incident on Penley’s Grove Street at 11pm on Wednesday. Wemyss is accused of approaching and stealing the woman’s jewellery as she walked home. The incident was the second robbery in three days after a women in her thirties was robbed at 10pm on Monday as she was walking on the footbridge beside Filey Terrace, behind York Hospital and the York-Scarborough railway line.

A 38-year-old man arrested on suspicion of robbery has been released on police bail.
