TALENTED student filmmakers from the University of York will showcase their work to leading members of the British film industry at the Vue Cinema in Piccadilly, London, as part of the Raindance Film Festival 2014.

The event, on September 25, is designed to celebrate the achievements and talent of BSc Film and Television Production students from the University’s Department of Theatre, Film and Television.

One of the organisers, film and television production graduate Harry Woodman, said: “This event is a fantastic opportunity for York students and recent graduates to showcase their work to the best and brightest in the industry, right in the heart of London.

“Additionally it enables established professionals to meet the promising filmmakers emerging from the University of York, several of whom will, I’m sure, make a big impact in the industry very soon.”

With films ranging from documentaries to science fiction thrillers, and locations reaching as far as the northern tip of Scotland, the quality and diversity of work produced is testament to the students’ hard work and creativity.

York’s student filmmakers have already enjoyed success in the Royal Television Society Yorkshire Student Awards, winning the top and runner-up prizes for the last two years and going on to compete at the National Awards.

They have also had their films screened at festivals around the world, won screen writing and cinematography awards and secured places at the National Film and Television School.

John Mateer, who leads the University’s Film and Television Production degree, said: “We designed the BSc Film and Television Production course to enable our students to become world-class filmmakers and television programme creators. The Raindance showcase will provide them with an opportunity to demonstrate to leading figures in the film industry just how talented they really are.”
