A RAINY outlook did not stop the people of Fulford enjoying their village’s annual show yesterday.

Families turned out in force to enjoy the spectacle and the competitions, which culminated in the traditional races and tug of war in the afternoon.

Show chairman Verna Campbell said: “It went brilliantly. We were disappointed with the rain to start with. But the crowds were great and lots of people turned out with their umbrellas.

“These are Yorkshire people and a bit of rain does not put them off.”

The show, the biggest yet, boasted 69 stalls as well as the traditional competitions. The rain cleared for the popular sports in the afternoon.

The proceedings came to an end with a tug of war which saw the team from the Lighthorseman pub beat rivals from the Bay Horse to take away the trophy.

Verna thanked the organising committee and the dedicated helpers who make the show possible.

She said: “It is wonderful to have these volunteers, and we could not do it without them.”
