ANTI fracking protesters stopped off in York on a cycling tour of the north.
The group are cycling 162 miles from Blackpool to Hull via York and Beverley. The ride started in Blackpool because that's where the UK's first high volume hydraulic fracturing for shale gas took place, they joined up with members of the Frack-Free York protest group while in the city.
After leaving York, the ride visited Crawberry Hill and West Newton near Beverley, where Canadian-owned Rathlin Energy are undertaking test-fracking, and will end up in Hull where an anti-fracking march is due to take place.
A spokesman for Frack-Free York said: "We are supporting this event because we are extremely concerned about the impact of burning more fossil hydrocarbons on our future climate, and the more immediate issues of the potential of aquifer pollution from ruptured well bores, fugitive methane emissions, the unsustainable use of fresh water to frack the shale."
