Two men were arrested following a police chase which ended when they were spotted hiding in trees.

Police attempted to stop the men at 5.35 this morning when they were spotted driving a silver Subaru Legacy and acting suspiciously on Colton Lane End in Tadcaster.

When the car failed to stop, it was chased along the A64 towards York until it was abandoned near some bushes on the eastbound slip road at Askham/A1036.

A police helicopter was called in to help search for the men, and they were spotted hiding in some bushes with their dogs around 400m from the car.

They ran off across fields when they were found, but were pursued and arrested after a short chase.

The men, one aged 24 from Barnsley, and a 24-year-old man from Liversedge in West Yorkshire, are currently in police custody being questioned on suspicion of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, failing to stop for police and dangerous driving.
