DETECTIVES investigating burglaries in York have appealing for a man seen near the city shortly after the incidents to come forward.

The burglaries occurred in Monkgate Cloisters between 5.40am and 6.10am on Saturday, July 26, and police earlier released this CCTV image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the burglaries.

Yesterday, they said a man was seen walking along the A64 towards Malton at about 8am that morning, and resembled the description of the suspect captured on CCTV.

He is described as white, in his late twenties, about six feet tall with an athletic build and short dark hair. He was clean shaven and had a large tattoo on the left hand side of his neck. He was wearing a black crew neck t-shirt, blue jeans and red trainers.

Detective Inspector Alan Rowan, of York CID, said: “It may be that the man seen walking along the A64 on Saturday, July 26, is unconnected with the burglaries in York. If this is the case I urge him to come forward so that he can be eliminated from our enquiries. I am also keen to speak to anyone who lives in the Malton who recognises the man and ask them to get in touch as soon as possible."

Anyone with information should phone York CID on 101, email matthew.wilkinson@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
