THE mother of Georgia Horsley has spoken about the overwhelming support her daughter received on Saturday when she wed McFly star, Danny Jones.
Hundreds of people gathered outside St Mary’s Priory Church, in Old Malton, in the hope of catching a glimpse of the celebrity couple and their guests, which included singer Ellie Goulding and Danny’s fellow bandmates, Tom Fletcher, Harry Judd and Dougie Poynter, who were all best men.
Georgia’s mum, Jean, said: “It was lovely to see so many people at the church and we really appreciated their presence. It was a fabulous day, absolutely perfect – is was just what Georgia and Danny wanted.”
Georgia, 27, a model and former Miss England, who is originally from Norton, arrived in a black and cream Rolls Royce. She was screened from the crowds by umbrellas and wore a black cape and hood to shield photographers from snatching a picture of her dress.
Following a 40-minute service, conducted by Reverend Peter Robinson, the couple emerged, again under cover, to cheers from the crowds.
The church was decorated with flowers by staff from Horsley’s florists, in Malton, which is owned by Georgia’s parents Jean and Gareth. During the service her mother and her aunt, Pauline Kirby read a poem they had written, while music was provided by Mcfly’s Tom.
Reverend Robinson said: “There was a really lovely atmosphere and a sense that everyone was there to support the couple.
“Although many of the guests had come from all over it was a real family occasion. They are a lovely couple who are obviously committed to each other and it was a pleasure to take the service.”
Family friend Lesley Appleby, a Norton Scout leader, who attended the wedding, said it had been amazing to see so many local people outside the church. “It was absolutely beautiful service, really lovely and a wonderful reception as well,” she said.
Suzanne Hoggard and Jenny Bird, who were among the crowd outside the church, said they were pleased Georgia had chosen to marry in her home town.
“It has been nice to be here with such a wonderful atmosphere,” Suzanne said.
“We have had a glimpse into the world where they come from – it’s been a lovely atmosphere.”
The newly-weds spent their first night as a married couple at The Talbot Hotel, in Malton, where many of their guests were also staying.
Georgia, who has has officially changed her name to Georgia Jones on Twitter, later tweeted: “Emotional. Amazing. Exciting and truly wonderful day! Married my soulmate. Proud wifey of @dannymcfly”.
