A "tackling alcohol" summit looks set to be held in York, to help address problems caused by people drinking too much in the city-centre.
City council leader James Alexander said on twitter on Saturday that he was calling the summit, as he posted a picture of officers from North Yorkshire Police dealing with a group of people just off Coney Street.
In later tweets on Sunday, he said "everyone needs to play their part + work together". He said the plan would involve council licensing officers, North Yorkshire Police and the health services.
Last month, The Press reported the council's plans to take a tougher stand against licensees who sell alcohol to already-drunk customers, with a series of letters and reminders to go out to managers and owners of licensed premises, and formal reviews of the licenses of trouble-spots.
A focus group set up by the council for a report earlier this year said there were not enough activities in York at night for those who did not want to go to bars or restaurants.
More late-night shopping and evening entertainment were mooted but traders called for help from the council to make it work.
