IMAGES have been released by North Yorkshire Police of people they want to speak to in connection with shoplifting offences around York.

The offences took place in April and May, but have only just been released, following the success of a similar appeal made recently through The Press.

Last month, we published a series of pictures including an image of a man police wanted to speak to in connection with the theft of a meal deal from a Tesco Express shop in York.

After seeing the image in The Press, a 55-year-old man handed himself in to police, and was given a community resolution disposal, apologised to the store, and paid for the stolen goods.

A police spokesman welcomed the result, and said it had potentially saved the taxpayer hundreds of pounds in court proceedings.

He said: "Community Resolution Disposals can sometimes be the best way of resolving a crime, providing both parties agree.

"For certain small thefts offering payment and apologising can be a much better option than the far more expensive route of court proceedings."

If you recognise anyone in the images, please contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
