POLICE have charged a man in connection with the murder of a woman at an East Yorkshire guesthouse.

John Heald was caught by police in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, on Friday, following a week-long manhunt. He spent some time in hospital over the weekend, and was questioned by police yesterday and this morning.

Humberside Police said Heald was wanted in connection with the murder of guesthouse landlady Bei Carter in Bridlington on Friday, July 18.

Today, the 53-year-old has been charged with her murder.

A police spokesman said Heald, of Foljambe Road, Rotherham, has also been charged with ten counts of rape in South Yorkshire on July 13.

He is due to appear at Beverley Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
