A YORK man has appeared in court in connection with a serious assault on a teenager in the city centre.

Liam Paul Thomas appeared before York and Selby Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and resisting arrest, following the incident in the early hours of Saturday.

An 18-year-old man suffered serious head injuries in the assault, which took place at Nessgate Corner, at about 4.30am, and was taken to York Hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Thomas, 20, of Howard Street, did not enter a plea, and was remanded in custody to appear before York Crown Court in August.
