POLICE have released CCTV footage of a man they want to find in relation to burglaries off Monkgate.

The burglaries happened at separate properties on Monkgate Cloisters at 5.40am and 6.10am on Saturday and although nothing was stolen the man responsible started a fire at the second address, which caused a small amount of damage.

Detective Inspector Alan Rowan, of York CID, said: “I am asking you to take a few moments to check the images to see if you recognise the man caught on camera.

“If you can help to identify him, I urge you to come forward and contact the police straight away."

The man they want to find was captured on camera in Monkgate Cloisters. He is described as white, aged in his late 20s, approximately 6ft tall with an athletic build and short dark hair. He was clean shaven and had a large tattoo on the left hand side of his neck. He was wearing a black crew neck t-shirt, blue jeans and red trainers.

Detective Inspector Rowan added: “If you are the man captured on camera and you are not responsible for these burglaries, I ask that you contact the police so that I can eliminate you from our enquiries.”
