Farming fun and preened pets can both be found at this year's Thompson's Pet Show.

Organisers have moved the family show into August for the first time in its history and have included a programme of activities for children, and new categories for beloved animals of all shapes and sizes.

A dog agility course will be built at the York Auction Centre site, while a tractor challenge will see youngsters pedal the farming vehicle around a course.

A bouncy castle and face painters will also be at the event on August 2.

Sarah Ivinson, commercial manager at Thompson's, said: "At this stage we have exceeded entries for last year.

"We've pushed the show into August, which I know has had a bearing on it, and it's an event for the whole family.

"We are adding a champion dog section for this year and a fun section like Waggiest Tail.

"Our entertainment is new for this year.

"We've got a Have a Go dog agility course, and tractor challenge with pedal tractors going around a course for children."

Organisers are urging owners with reptiles to get in touch and enter their exotic pets category.

Sarah added: "We are looking for some snakes and lizards for our exotic animals section, but preparations are going really well and everything is coming together."

Entries received before July 30 will receive 10 per cent off all items at Thompson's Country store, which can be found opposite the auction centre.
