GOOD Vibrations rang out across York's Knavesmire last night as music legends The Beach Boys kicked off the racecourse's Music Showcase weekend.

The American band behind hits such as Surfin' USA, God Only Knows and California Girls, performed in warm evening sunshine on a huge trackside stage after the racing action had finished.

Racecourse spokesman James Brennan said a crowd of 15,000 was expected to come and watch the racing and concert, which he expected to include all the famous hit from their back catalogue, and even more were likely to attend tomorrow evening's fixture and concert by Wet Wet Wet.

The Beach Boys also performed a “new song” called Pisces, written and recorded by band founder member after George Harrison passed away. Along with Mike on stage was Bruce Johnston, a Beach Boy since 1965.
