SEVEN of Yorkshire’s most beautiful churches will take part in the Yorkshire Medieval Festival next month by hosting ‘Church Explorers,’ a free series of walks, tours and hands-on activity days.
The four-week festival will bring together medieval-themed events, activities, talks and tours at various locations in York and the surrounding area.
Selby Abbey will host a family day on Wednesday, August 27, and events will be held at St Helen and Holy Cross, Sheriff Hutton, on August 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30; St John the Baptist, Healaugh on August 6; St Mary Bishophill Junior, York, on August 7; St Mary, Woodkirk on Saturday, August 16; All Saints, Wold Newton,on August 19 and August 21 and St Helen’s, Bilton-in-Ainsty on August 24 and 25.
The festival begins in Rowntree Park, York, on August 2-3 with Medieval Merriment, an “extravaganza of knightly combat, living history, and merry medieval mayhem.”
