THOUSANDS of motorists are heading along baking roads to the Yorkshire Coast this afternoon as the weathermen predict an end to the heatwave by Sunday.
Queuing motorists are shown on the eastbound A64 near York's Hopgrove roundabout.
Temperatures soared to the upper 70s in the York area this afternoon, with 26 C, or almost 79 Fahrenheit recorded at RAF Linton on Ouse at 2pm.
Similar temperatures are expected tomorrow in York but lower in resorts such as Scarborough where there could be coastal mist and cloud.
But a cold front is likely to bring a little rain tomorrow night and much cooler temperatures on Sunday, with only 21C, or 70 Fahrenheit expected in York, with bright or sunny spells and showers.
