POLICE executed warrants on more than a dozen fine dodgers in York this week.
Over seven hours on Monday, a team of police officers, special constables and PCSOs led by Sergeant Martin Metcalfe of the West Safer Neighbourhood Team worked with courts enforcement officers at addresses around the city.
A total of 14 people were arrested during the day of action, who were all wanted for non-payment of fines totalling £3,247 to York Magistrates' Court for offences including burglary, criminal damage, theft, assault and drugs offences.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said one male had locked himself in the bathroom to try and avoid being caught, while another had to abandon the van he was driving at the roadside when arrested by police. Another male from West Yorkshire was also apprehended, and sent to prison for ten days for consistently not paying his fines.
Sgt Metcalfe said: "If you have fines outstanding for criminal matters, I would urge you to make contact with the courts to arrange payment, or you are likely to be arrested when we carry out further days of action very soon."
